“This idea is simple, the goal is straightforward, but I need your help! I’m going meet 1 new person a day, everyday, for 365 days. The goal is to makes images that age well and increase in value over time; images that will become part of your family story, which we can pass on to the next generation.”

I get so in the zone when I’m shooting video that I rarely think to snag a few photos – but when I do, I remember how much I enjoy photography as well.

I have now made two trips to Mexico this summer – the first was to film a surf trip, where I created my short film My Home, Our Home, and the second was to shoot a documentary for the newly created Water’s Edge Project. One small town I was able to spend a lot of time in between the two trips was Barra De La Cruz, a beautiful fishing village that is home to an incredible right point. The people in Barra are among the friendliest, kindest, most earnest people I’ve ever met, and the town itself has some of the best vibes I’ve ever experienced. Here are a few photos I was able to snag amidst all the video shoots.

There are two local skaters here – Forest Davis and Max McGee – whose styles I’ve always admired. Earlier this year I decided I wanted to make a short skate video with the two guys and shoot it entirely on my glidecam. They both skate so clean, so I want all the shots to be super smooth. Yesterday I finally had some time to go shoot a quick session with Forest and we ended up getting some really good footage which I threw together as a little preview of what’s to come. Just gotta get in touch with Max now!

I’m heading back down to Mexico tomorrow; this time to work on a documentary for the Waters Edge Project – A project created by Christian Moutinho after our first trip to Mexico in late May. For more information on the project, please visit our website. There are three main initiatives of the project – Adopt a Surfer Program, Coastline Preservation, and Disease and Infection Prevention. I am really excited to be a part of this as it is just getting started! Hopefully it will really catch on and we can do this in many more places around the world.

I will be shooting video and photos, and when we return there will be a big exhibition in Victoria, BC, with my photos and a premiere of the film. We are hoping to raise more money to keep this project going. Spread the word!

I have been so bad at keeping up with any updates since my trip South. Let’s see. Well, Mexico was incredible. We scored, and I have a ton of footage to prove it, which I have been working hard on editing since returning. I managed to get a few photos too, but my main focus was definitely on the video. I can’t wait to have it finished and up on the web! Now that it’s summer it’s been pretty hard for me to just buckle down and get everything done in a timely manner like I could in the winter; I still haven’t even gone through and sorted out or even edited my stills from the trip, or even thought about putting them up on the site. But I will! It’s sunny, it’s warm, and the water has been beautiful. Even had some fun waves the past two days. Anyways, there are lots of exciting things to come within the next couple of weeks (including a second trip to Mexico at the end of July – more details on that soon!)
